The vineyard is located 836 meters above sea level and covers an area of 242 hectares, 85 of which use currently certified organic farming techniques and the rest is undergoing conversion. Therefore, 90% of the grapes harvested within a period of no longer than three years shall come from organic farming.
The following varieties are grown in the 85 hectares already Certified Organic: Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Tempranillo, Bobal, Sauvignon Blanc and Macabeo (also known as Viura).
Among the conventional grape varieties we can find Bobal, Tempranillo, Monastrell, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The average age of our vineyards is twenty-five years, with young grapevines which will gradually come into production; other ones are older than fourty years-old. We can proudly affirm that 60% of the vineyards are trained utilizing trellis systems and the rest is goblet-trained.
In Bodegas Altamán we grow grapevines traditionally, with restrictive pruning and green harvesting, in order to obtain better quality grapes. |
